A few months back, I chatted with the worship leader at our church who just happens to be a wonderfulΒ photographer and we both had the idea of doing a bookish photo shoot! I was in need of some new head shots and he had the idea of putting together something even more creative. With that, we hashed a plan and the day? SO FUN! The result? Absolutely magical. I had a sweet friend come up to help with the kiddos and the coffee was on! After a busy afternoon of shooting, none of us minded seeing if those scones were as tasty as they looked. π While they were yummy, I definitely got the good end of the deal! I’m so thankful to the artistic energy of Mike Thezier and his trusty assistant for these great photos. New head shots are on the way and here are a few special pics from the day. Which ones could you envision on the back of a book!?
Welcome to my home, friends!
Want to see a few behind-the-scenes shots?
I’ve tucked someΒ here!
I love these! They capture the beautiful essence of you as a writer. <3
You are so sweet, Jen. Thank you!
My favorite is you sittin in the queen anne chair just looking at the camera. Thatβs going to make an awesome back cover!
Thanks, Perrianne! I’m so glad to know you liked that one π
Very nice photos! I think my favorite is #7.
I would put #3 (the first picture) or #8 on the back of the cover because I like the author in the picture to be looking at the camera, as if at me. It connnects better with the readers, in my opinion. π
Francesca,
It’s such a delight to know which ones you liked for the back of a book and your reasons for that. I definitely agree! That smile and eye contact makes it extra friendly.
I love these!! You are beautiful and the photos just have the most perfect lighting and setup. (And also, on a personal note, as I get ready to move, I kinda want to copy some of your decor. Haha!)
Thank you, Melissa! And haha…I’m honored! It’s about 90% second-hand and 10% Hobby Lobby. π
I love these! You have such a fun, whimsical country vibe that shows in your writing, your decor, and your photos! And such a sweet, joyful spirit that really shines in your smile.
My favorites are where you look relaxed – the second one (leaning against a chair with coffee), the eighth one (writing in a notebook, surrounded by books), and the last two (laughing).
Sarah,
So touched by your sweet words. Thank you, friend! And I’m so glad to know which ones you like best. π
Hi Joanne! The eighth one is my favorite for a backcover ~ with lavender in the background and you are looking down writing in your journal. Love you so, dear sister eternally! I would love one of these side bookmarks! So beautiful and reminiscent of His peace!!! Love, Kathleen ~ Lane Hill House
Kathleen, Thanks for sharing your favorites! And YES, I can definitely get you some of those bookmarks. Will you send me your address? I’ll pop a few in the mail. π
Joanne! These are magical!
Thank you, Laurie!!

Thank you, Anna!! I’ve got fond picture memories with you as well! <3
These are super fun!!!
So glad you like them, Brittany! Thank you!
They are all so good! My favorite one is of you sitting on the floor surrounded by books with coffee cup in hand!
Phyllis, It’s great to know which one you like the best! I liked that one too. π Thank you for stopping by!
These are beautiful and darling–and so are you! π I love them all, but especially the one by the woodstove and also the one of you reading in the chair with a stack of books on the table by your feet. π
Thanks for sharing snippets of this fun afternoon with us!
Kiersti,
Thank you so much friend! It means so much to hear that. And doubly special to know which ones are your favorites. Such a joy to have you visit. Sending a hug from afar!
These are so awesome! I especially love the reflective one of you writing in your journal while sitting in the chair, and in that last set of three–the center one of you giggling at something. And I couldn’t help laughing when I spotted the corner of one of my book covers in a shot. Hee hee!
Karen,
I was so delighted when I saw that pop up in one of the shots! The books were all over the place, so I had no idea what might actually be photographed. So fun that it was MISTAKEN! π And thank you!!
Joanne, these are sweet pictures … just as sweet as you. Just lovely.
You are so kind, Shelli, thank you. <3
I love this so much!! Thank you for sharing! What a beautiful space, and gorgeous pics.
I’m so glad you like them, Jocelyn! And this is my house looking clean and nice — rather rare of late, LOL.
My favorite is the 2nd one, where you are sitting on the floor in front of the chair holding the mug, surrounded by books.
Just beautiful Joanne. π
Thank you so much, Julie.
They are all just beautiful. I love the warmth and coziness of them.
Winnie, that’s so lovely to know. Thank you.
These are fabulous! I want to do some too now.. but I’m quite camera shy.. heheh. You look great! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks bunches, Annie! Hehe…I totally understand. I was really nervous when it came down to it! LOL
I love the one with the stove and the copper kettle. Itβs cozy looking.
Paula, I’m so glad you like that shot! I love it too π I got that kettle for $12 at the goodwill and it’s made some lovely cups of tea ever since. π
Oh my goodness, these are so beautiful! The colors all work so well together and it looks so peaceful. Love them all. β€οΈ

Terry, Thank you! Would LOVE to have you over one of these days!
Love them all. At one time I could feel sadness in your smiling face. Now I see joy returning! Blessings to you!
Shirley,
That is so sweet of you to say. There has been much sadness, but I keep trying to find a smile in the end. Some seasons have been harder than others, but God is always at work, isn’t He?
Those are beautiful! I am so looking forward to your new book… I am anxiously awaiting the release date!
Danielle, Thank you so much! I’m delighted you’re looking forward to it! I pray it will be a blessing to you, friend.
They are all great but I really love the first one for the back of one of your books. I am a recent reader of your books and I believe I have now bought all of them (both on Kindle and Audible) and pre-ordered the next one. After listening to The Lady and The Lionheart, one of my daughters is now listening to To Get To You. We were just discussing both books and how much we love them (and the narration)!
Pat,
What a joy to read your sweet comment. I am HONORED that you and your daughters have been enjoying my books…and on audio as well! Glory…I love the narrators I’ve had the privilege of working with. They are so talented and have such a heart for story and their craft as narrators. I so hope you enjoy Sons of Blackbird Mountain and am just giddy from where I sit to think of it landing in your hands soon. <3
I love these. I just discovered your work. Totally Captivated! Your storytelling is uniquely beautiful. I cannot wait to read more from you. These pictures, by the way, are Pinterest worthy! I love the aesthetic of your home!
Welcome, Jessica! It’s a JOY meeting you and thank you for all your sweet words about my story and these pics! π
