Homeschooling is quite a journey. Enjoy the process and keep cheering on the successes. It's worth it in the end. I'll be praying for calm, stress-free days for you.
By the way, since you're enjoying the Little House books, check out the Prairie Primer. It's a homeschool curriculum based on that series and we had a blast doing it several years back. I even have it if it's something you'd like to borrow.

Thanks, Beverly! It is so inspiring to see your son cross the finish line :)

And I'm with you Ashley! A while back, I read Levi ch.1 of Little House in the Big Woods (the one with the wolves surrounding the house) He looked at me and said "I don't know why you're reading this." So I shelved it for a year and when we went back, decided just to start on chapter two ;) Of course the boy in him thinks all the hog boiling is the coolest thing ever, LOL.

I <3 the little house books. Had to skip over a bit of hog boiling, for the sake of my horrified children, but the stories are so lovely. On the Banks of Plum creek, still such a favorite. I <3 your cardboard lily pad idea! awesome.

My daughters are 7 & 5, and the benefits of reading to them every night are shining through in my 2nd graders' first reading assessment test.

Yes, they go to traditional school, but we sit down every night for homework. Daddy teaches math, mama does projects. And every night, we're reading our "first Bibles" together.

Ellie had this to say: Best Book Ever.

You hit the nail on the head, Joanne, when you said it was ok to slow down and go at his pace. That's precisely the reason (well, one of the reasons) that you homeschool. While classrooms have to move along at a predetermined pace, you don't have to. It doesn't matter how slowly or quickly he learns. Or what method works or doesn't...you have the luxury of customizing and reaching his and May's unique, God-given personalities.

The important math lesson here is that the Lord will multiply your every moment with them. After all, He's the Master Teacher!

FYI, I've crossed the finish line. The son I homeschooled just completed his Master's degree, so I send out hearty prayers and encouragement to ALL homeschoolers in every stage of life.
