Why am I blogging about a song?
Well, I’ve decided to spotlight folk music now and again for two reasons.
1. I LOVE folk music. It’s pretty much my favorite genre outside of worship music. And there are some really awesome artists and songs out there…so this is me sharin’ the love :]
2. Folk and bluegrass music really tie into my stories. It’s a common thread in most everything I write. And while it’s ever evolving, this song is one that is currently at the top of my writing mix.
The song for this spotlight is the well-loved hymn, “His Eye is on the Sparrow” by Audrey Assad. It’s not as folksy as some of the other songs I’ve spotlighted, but one can never go wrong with this great classic and Audrey puts a fresh, jazzy twist on it. I learned about this song from one of the hosts of the Christian Fiction book club. Since we’re talking about Be Still My Soul this month, she shared this song as it reminded her about the book 🙂 So without further adieu, I hope you enjoy!
Adding to my playlist, thanks for sharing. There’s something about music that penetrates deep within our soul, especially when the message touches our faith place. To His glory!
Awesome, Beverly! Isn’t it a warm song? I love how you put it!!
This is an awesome song–thanks for sharing!
You are welcome! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
I love this version!! And I love what I’ve heard of Audrey’s music. I just found out I get to sing her “Winter Snow” song for our church’s Christmas program this year. Yay! Such a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics.
Oooh, I would love to hear you sing that song! Isn’t her music wonderful? I just recently discovered it and I love her style. I bet you are going to do great!!
Beautiful! I have never heard that version before.
I JUST found it! Isn’t it nice 🙂 It’s so cheery.
Such a beautiful song! Love the original but this one beats it – the country/bluegrass feel of the song is wonderful! Added this artist to my pandora stations.
Isn’t pandora the best?! I made an Audrey Assad station too. We are definitely on the same wave length 😀 I love how happy this version is.
Beautiful song! I first heard “His Eye is on the Sparrow” when someone sang it at church years ago, and I’ve been in love with it ever since. The words really speak to me every time I hear it. 🙂 Thanks Joanne!
Gwendolyn, it’s so fun to hear that this song is dear to you. The words are incredibly. Glad you enjoyed this version! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
What a cool version and an amazing voice! I’ve loved this song ever since I heard Lauryn Hill and Tanya Blount sing it in Sister Act 2.
Thanks for popping in, Veronica! You just gave me an excuse to hit replay on the song 😉 Isn’t it great!? So glad to hear that it’s one you love. The original is beautiful, but this is such a cheery version, I couldn’t pass it up. Great seeing you here!
