Why am I blogging about a song?Β
Well, I’ve decided to spotlight folk music now and again for two reasons.
1. I LOVE folk music. It’s pretty much my favorite genre outside of worship music. And there are some really awesome artists and songs out there…so this is me sharin’ the love :]
2. Folk and bluegrass music really tie into my stories. It’s a common thread in most everything I write. And while it’s ever evolving, this song is one that is currently at the top of my writing mix.
The song for this spotlight is Mumford & Sons “After the Storm.” So without furtherΒ adieu, I hope you enjoy!Β
What a beautiful song. Love the photos. Thanks for sharing!
Morning! So glad you enjoyed the music, Nettie! Hugs!!!
Well, I got my wish right quick, didn’t I? I’ve been wondering what sort of music you must enjoy and was hoping the vote would swing that way (as much as I love bread!).
I’m listening as I type this and getting chills up my legs. I like this singer’s voice. I especially like the line “Love will not break your heart/but dismiss your fears.” I’ll check out more of their music.
Have you heard Nickel Creek? I have their self-titled CD, and bought it because it has one of my favorite childhood folk songs, The Fox.

Another one I particularly like, The Hand Song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXTkCDozScc&feature=related

I couldn’t agree more! I am a HUGE Nickel Creek fan! Those are two of their great ones. “The Hand Song” just brings tears to my eyes. Fun that you bring them up because one of their songs, Scotch and Chocolate was one of the inspirational songs behind the opening scene in Be Still My Soul. I love the fast paced, bluegrass feel and was listening to that as the scene came together in my mind!
I’m so glad you like “After the Storm” It’s such a beautiful song. They have a lot of other great songs, though some of their songs have lyrics that aren’t quite as clean, but for their music that’s clean, I really enjoy it.
Love the song! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for stopping in Jamie π I can imagine you have your hands full with the busy, busy life of mommy with a baby π I enjoy your pictures on Facebook. Those little ones grow so fast! Take care!
Love Mumford and Sons! Great song.
Hi Julie! They have an amazing sound. There’s a handful of their songs that I just really love. Thanks for dropping in…its always a pleasure! I hope your writing is going well π
Hmmm, I’ve never really listened to folk music before, but how interesting to know about you! π
Hi Jessica! I totally relate…I only started listening it to it in the last year or two. I was raised on the old school stuff and it just sort of became a part of me and once I started writing, I realized that’s where my heart kept going. I really love the more modern stuff and thanks to Pandora, I have an endless supply of new artists π Thanks for dropping in! Take care!
Love this music, Joanne. I find music in general so central to my writing. And folk music is such a part of Appalachia and where I’m from and your books are set:) Endless inspiration! And hats off to Pandora, too! It’s so fun discovering new artists and favorite songs. I never get tired of listening!
It’s fun to hear that music and writing are connected for you, Laura! They go together like salt and pepper for me π I absolutely love Pandora! Folk music isn’t really on the radio much so it’s hard to find new artists and Pandora opens up that world which is wonderful.
After seeing the beautiful cover for Love’s Reckoning, I can only imagine the music that worked as your inspiration and even into your story. It’s so elegant and moving.
I love a variety of genres, but always folk music on the list. I love that Pandora lets you have customized “channels” to listen to. Just last night me and my husband talked about how our young lives especially have a sort of sountrack of favorite music. Thanks for the recommendation! So nice you stopped by!
Jacqueline, Such a pleasure to see your comment! Thank you for stopping in! Your blog was lovely, I enjoyed all the photos. Isn’t it amazing how music sort of plays along with the season of our lives? I hear songs and it will instantly take me back to a time in my life. Hope you and your husband have a wonderful weekend!
Hi Joanne, so sweet of you to stop by Quirky Vistas and leave me such a fun comment. How cool that your husband got you a tandem bike AND rides with you. That is way better than an aqua beach cruiser any day. If you don’t have any photos of you two riding it, you should get some and post them. If you do have some posted, point me to them. I’d love to see ’em. Haven’t ridden one since I was kid and it was so fun back then!

Hi Liz!! I can’t tell you how much I want to get a picture of us on that bike. I keep thinking what a fun facebook banner it would make. We’re taking it to the beach soon, so hopefully I can get someone to snap a photo. Thank you for stopping in! It’s been a pleasure meeting you!
Hi Joanne! Thanks for your kind comment on my transferware dishes post! I’m so excited to meet an author here…how awesome that your book is getting published!
Elizabeth you are so sweet. I’m excited to meet you back =) It’s such a joy that you stopped in. Your blog was so homey and inviting. I hope you have a wonderful week!
